GRAB YOUR SHARE OF THE CREATOR ECONOMY
There is this thing called the creator's economy and if you've not been creating content, you are missing your share of this $100 Billion opportunity.
This is not a Joke. Not too long ago, Mr. Beast was offered $1 Billion for his Youtube Channel. Sabinus Owns N500 million worth of real estate. Tawoama became a Muilti millionaire at 24. Sydney Talker, Brain Jotter, Lord Lamba. These guys are swimming in pools of cash because they found a way of tapping from this industry.
Content creation is the new oil money of the 21st century. But most people don't know how to get started. There are different forms of content creation. E.g. blogging, infographics, Ebooks/ White papers, Travel guides, videos, memes, etc.
However, I will only be talking about video content creation. From Youtube to Facebook, to Tiktok, and even Instagram, you can stay in the comfort of your home and create content that will garner enough attention for you and bring you lots of money. But you need to know how to create content the right way.
Here are 4 Basic steps to become a content creator, and no one is talking about this.
1. YOU NEED TO SHOOT.
The magic all starts from being able to sit in front of a camera and spit your shit. To do that, you need these essential tools.
The Essential Tools
To start shooting content, you need a few key tools, the most obvious being a camera. From smartphones to professional DSLRs, the options are vast and varied, making it accessible to virtually anyone. Alongside the camera, get a ring light. A ring light can significantly improve lighting conditions and enhance the overall quality of your videos. Additionally, audio quality is crucial for content creation, so a microphone is another essential item.
Clear and crisp sound elevates the viewer's experience, making them more likely to stay engaged with your content. To ensure audio is captured at its best, a quality recorder or audio interface is recommended. For a start, I recommend using Adobe podcast if you can't afford a microphone. I made a video about it here.
Perfecting the Setting:
While some content creators opt for a simple and minimalistic backdrop, others prefer a meaningful or consistent background that aligns with their brand or niche. A well-thought-out backdrop can enhance storytelling and create a cohesive experience for your audience. For those who enjoy experimenting with visual effects, a green screen can transport your content to virtually any setting, allowing for limitless creative opportunities.
Beyond the Equipment
Idea, Planning, and Strategy. While the tools and setting play a vital role in content creation, they are not the sole determinants of success. The idea behind your content, the planning process, and a well-thought-out strategy are equally important. Understanding your target audience, their interests, and pain points will help you create content that resonates and connects with them on a deeper level. Brainstorming content ideas, creating scripts, and organizing shooting schedules can bring structure and purpose to your work.
Moreover, having a clear content strategy ensures that your content aligns with your overall goals, whether it's building a personal brand, driving traffic to a website, or increasing product visibility.
Heads up.
You may not get it right at the beginning. No one does. So be prepared to accept your imperfections and grow. The internet loves and cherishes growth over hype.
Your first videos might not be as polished as you hope, but each step you take leads to improvement and mastery of your craft. Again, Your audience will appreciate the journey and the genuine effort you put into your content.
2. Editing.
As a content creator, you need to have some basic editing skills.
What does it take to edit?
If you don't have a professional editing software, you can consider enhancing your sound with Adobe Podcast. I made a video about that here.
Up next, you need a video editing software. You can use CapCut, InShot, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or any of the software that you are comfortable with.
If all you have is a phone, your choice is well between the CapCut, InShot, or VN Editor. FilmoraGo is also an app to consider.
Regardless of the software or app you choose, the process of editing remains relatively similar. Let's explore some key steps to consider when editing audio or video content.
Firstly, it's essential to organize your raw files. Make sure all your audio or video clips are in a well-structured folder or project file. This step will save you time and frustration when you start the editing process.
Next, import your files into the editing software or app of your choice. Once your content is loaded, you can start trimming and cutting out unwanted sections. Removing any unnecessary pauses or awkward silences can greatly improve the flow of your content. After trimming, you can begin adding transitions between clips. Transitions help create smooth connections between different scenes or segments, giving your content a more polished and professional look.
Audio and video enhancements come next. In audio editing, you can adjust the volume levels, add background music, or apply filters to enhance the sound quality. For video editing, you can adjust brightness, contrast, and color grading to achieve a visually appealing result. Adding text and graphics can also be a valuable addition to your content. Text overlays can provide context or emphasize important points, while graphics can make your video more visually engaging. While editing, pay close attention to pacing. Avoid long periods of talking without visual stimulation in videos or excessive silence in podcasts. Keeping the audience engaged is crucial to maintaining their interest throughout the content. Once you've completed your editing, take the time to review your work. Watch or listen to the content from start to finish, making notes of any areas that could use improvement. Being critical of your work and making necessary adjustments will result in a better final product. After you're satisfied with the editing, it's time to export your file. Choose the appropriate file format and resolution that aligns with your intended distribution platform.
Lastly, share your edited content with the world! You can't go through all this stress and be shy again. Make sure Facebook feels your impact, let tiktok hear your name, and Instagram, don't give them a breathing space.
3. Publish.
Distribution is everything. Don't just edit and keep it in your draft. Post on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Reels, Facebook Watch, YouTube, Twitter, Telegram, any channel. Just post. Make sure that you push your content far and beyond. Casting a wide net will help you reach different audiences.
And if you have the money, promote your content. Don't wait on the free organic traffic unless you are trying to be an influencer because it really matters if you grow an organic audience. Nonetheless, investing in promotion can significantly boost your reach and visibility. It can help you target specific demographics and expand your audience beyond your current followers.
4. Repeat.
Consistency is everything. It is a key factor in building credibility and gaining the trust of your audience. If you publish today and you don't publish tomorrow, no one will take you seriously.
So publish as often as you can. Even if you are going to talk about crap, you are going to be cheesy, funny, and smile like I am right now. If you know my kind of content, I'm always serious and frown face. By doing so, you'll strengthen your online presence and build a loyal community around your content. Remember, consistency is key to long-term success in content creation.
One more, I know the title said 4 steps but since you're my Paddy, let me add one.
Build a community. That is where the money is. I won't say much, maybe I'll talk about it in my next blog. Until then!
In conclusion, becoming a content creator is an exciting journey that requires dedication, creativity, and perseverance. Armed with just a camera, a microphone, and a passion for content creation, you can dive into the world of shooting and editing. Remember to distribute your content across various platforms and consistently publish to build a loyal and growing audience.
